The Board of Control for Cricket in India is preparing a policy to define its Ombudsman’s jurisdiction and restrict the office from taking up complaints concerning local or state-level matters, according to a Times of India report.
The proposed framework would set clearer terms of reference for complaints involving state associations. State-level grievance mechanisms would be expected to address local disputes before a matter reaches the BCCI Ombudsman.
State associations raised objections at the AGM
Representatives of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association, Kerala Cricket Association, Baroda Cricket Association, Punjab Cricket Association and Odisha Cricket Association raised concerns during the BCCI Annual General Meeting in Mumbai, the report said.
The state association representatives argued that complaints taken directly to the Ombudsman create additional legal costs. The representatives also questioned whether the Ombudsman should consider disputes primarily linked to the internal functioning of individual state associations.
