The BCCI has arranged separate accommodation for India’s men’s cricket team at the Asian Games in Japan because the size of the contingent exceeds the permitted number of members. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said the larger travelling group includes the team’s support staff.
Saikia told the Times of India that the board did not want to split the men’s contingent during the tournament.
Women’s squad will use Games accommodation
India’s women’s team will stay in accommodation provided by the Asian Games organising committee because its contingent is within the permitted limit of 20 members, according to Saikia.
Saikia also said the BCCI trusted the local organising committee to provide suitable facilities at the match venue. His comments followed reports that other Asian cricket boards had raised concerns about the quality of the ground.
The BCCI secretary said he would arrive in Japan on October 1 and would be able to assess the arrangements after reaching the venue.
BCCI prioritises Asian Games gold
The BCCI has selected a full-strength T20I squad for the Asian Games despite the tournament overlapping with preparations for the following year’s ODI World Cup and a scheduled home ODI series against West Indies.

At least seven first-choice ODI players are set to participate in the Asian Games. Saikia said the squad would include Bumrah and regular captain Iyer, adding that the BCCI viewed an Asian Games gold medal as being as important as another major title.
India won men’s cricket gold at the 2023 Asian Games with a squad that did not include several premier players, who remained focused on preparations for the 2023 ODI World Cup.
Japan T20I scheduled for September 22
India will play Japan in a T20I on September 22 as part of events marking 75 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
Saikia said ICC chairman Jay Shah proposed the match after bringing representatives of the Indian and Japanese cricket boards together during an ICC meeting in Edinburgh in July. Saikia said the fixture was intended to support cricket’s gradual growth in Japan.
