Joe Root became the first England batter to record six consecutive fifty-plus scores in One-Day Internationals after making an unbeaten 74 from 49 balls against India at Lord’s on Sunday. The innings came during the series-deciding third ODI.

Root’s latest contribution followed scores of 61, 75, 111 not out, 76 not out and 99 not out. The former England captain also completed his third successive half-century of the three-match series, according to the Times of India report.

Duckett scored 141 and Bethell made 91 before Root maintained England’s momentum through the closing overs. Jos Buttler then struck an unbeaten 41 from 13 balls as England finished close to 400.

Bumrah misses the deciding ODI

Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the third ODI because of reactive swelling in his left knee following an impact injury sustained during the second match of the series.

India’s four-man pace attack struggled to contain England after Bumrah’s absence, while the Duckett-Bethell partnership gave Root and Buttler a strong platform for the final overs.
