In a significant boost to their prospects of making it to the ICC World Test Championship final next year, Sri Lanka registered a commanding 192-run triumph over Bangladesh in the second Test held in Chattogram.

The Sri Lankan team sealed the victory in the first session of the final Test’s fifth day, marking a comfortable 2-0 series sweep. Khaled Ahmed of Bangladesh was the last batter to fall at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium.

This victory has propelled Sri Lanka past Pakistan to the fourth position in the updated World Test Championship standings. They now have a points percentage of 50, trailing only India, Australia, and New Zealand.

Looking ahead, Sri Lanka has two home series scheduled in this cycle. They will face New Zealand later this year, followed by two home Tests against Australia in early 2025.

Their next challenge is a three-match series in England starting in August. The team will enter these matches with high confidence, buoyed by their recent series victory in Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka’s dominance was evident throughout the series, with Kamindu Mendis leading the run-scoring charts with 367 runs at an average of 122.33.

Mendis remained unbeaten at 92 in the first innings, helping Sri Lanka to a massive total of 531. The bowlers complemented the batting effort by bundling out Bangladesh for a meager 178.

Asitha Fernando led the bowling attack with four wickets in the first innings, while Lahiru Kumara claimed four wickets in the second innings to secure the win.

On the other hand, Bangladesh has slipped to the seventh position in the updated World Test Championship standings. Their next series is scheduled in Pakistan later this year, comprising two Test matches.
