Kuldeep Yadav missed India’s second training session in succession in Colombo, while Saransh Jain completed a full workout ahead of the second Test against Sri Lanka. India did not confirm a change to the playing XI, and head coach Gautam Gambhir said all bowling options remained open.

India’s camp said Kuldeep had been rested from the first session. KL Rahul, who was also absent on Friday, returned to bat on Saturday, but Kuldeep did not train. No injury or other reason for Kuldeep’s continued absence was confirmed in the original report.
Saransh Jain receives a full training workout
Saransh Jain’s involvement at the SSC strengthened the possibility that India could consider the off-spinner for the Colombo Test, although the team made no selection announcement.
Saransh began his final session by inspecting the pitch and then worked with spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule on spot bowling. The 33-year-old also batted against net bowlers and throwdown specialists while Gambhir and senior selection committee chairman Ajit Agarkar watched.
Gambhir spoke with Saransh after the batting session before the all-rounder returned to the dressing room. The extended work followed another substantial session for Saransh on the previous day.
Sri Lanka’s left-handers could affect India’s choice
Sri Lanka’s possible inclusion of additional left-handed batters gives India a tactical reason to consider Saransh’s off-spin, but the hosts’ complete batting order was not confirmed in the source report.
Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva confirmed that left-handed batter Kamil Mishara would take an opening position. Sahan Arachchige, another left-handed batter, was also an option for the middle order.
Gambhir did not indicate whether Kuldeep or Saransh would play. The India head coach said the management would select the bowling attack it believed was best equipped to take 20 wickets, regardless of whether that combination contained left-arm spinners, an off-spinner or three seamers.
Kuldeep’s limited Galle role remains relevant
Kuldeep bowled 25 overs and took one wicket across the Galle Test, where captain Shubman Gill used Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja for most of India’s spin workload.
Gambhir said a five-bowler Test attack would usually leave one member underused. The India head coach explained that the captain and management had to identify the bowlers most threatening in the conditions rather than judge selection only by workload.
Gambhir also said he had advised Kuldeep to concentrate on delivering a good spell instead of becoming desperate for wickets. According to Gambhir, excessive urgency can affect a wrist-spinner’s control.
India continued to back Kuldeep’s ability, while Bahutule said the left-arm wrist-spinner was adapting to the role assigned to him. Kuldeep’s absence from both Colombo sessions and Saransh’s extensive preparation left the final spin combination unresolved before the match.
