Bangladesh’s Litton Das Expected to Regain Form Ahead of T20 World Cup

Litton Das: Bangladesh's Secret Weapon for T20 World Cup?

Bangladesh’s Litton Das Expected to Regain Form Ahead of T20 World Cup

Despite Litton Das’s recent slump in form, fellow Bangladesh cricketer Towhid Hridoy remains confident that the seasoned opener will bounce back ahead of the forthcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

Das has had a disappointing run in the ongoing T20I series against Zimbabwe, scoring a mere 36 runs in the first three matches. Furthermore, the 29-year-old has not managed to cross the 50-run mark in his last 10 T20I matches for Bangladesh.

However, as the squad for this year’s T20 World Cup is yet to be announced, Das’s impressive white-ball record and his position as the second-highest run-scorer in the previous tournament in Australia in 2022, make him a likely candidate for selection.

Hridoy anticipates Das to regain his form in the remaining matches against Zimbabwe and carry this momentum into the T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies, given he is selected.

“No player intentionally performs poorly,” Hridoy stated. “Litton and other top-order batsmen are giving their best. Even the best players have off days. Despite recent criticism of Litton’s strike rate, it remains one of the top three in Bangladesh.”

“Even the world’s best batsman cannot perform in every match or series. I am hopeful that those struggling with form will bounce back soon. A single good game can mark a player’s comeback and potentially change the game’s outcome. We must maintain our faith and not lose hope,” he added.

For the ninth edition of the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, Bangladesh is placed in Group D. They are scheduled to face Sri Lanka in their opening match, followed by South Africa, Netherlands, and Nepal, as five teams vie for two spots in the Super 8s stage of the tournament.

Hridoy expressed satisfaction with his team’s preparation for the upcoming tournament, with the final two matches against Zimbabwe at home and a three-game series against the USA just before the T20 World Cup, expected to provide the perfect warm-up.

“I believe our preparation is on track,” Hridoy observed. “The matches against Zimbabwe are not easy. They are a good team with some talented players. There’s a significant difference between international and domestic cricket, so I believe we are preparing well. There’s always room for improvement, and the more we improve, the better.”
