South African All-Rounder Incurs Additional Demerit Point for Violating ICC Code of Conduct

Marizanne Kapp, the South African all-rounder, has been reprimanded for violating Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the inaugural ODI of the ICC Women’s Championship series against Sri Lanka in East London on Tuesday, 9 April.

Kapp was found guilty of violating Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which pertains to the “use of an audible obscenity during an International Match.”

An additional demerit point has been added to Kapp’s disciplinary record, marking her second offence within a 24-month period. This brings her total demerit points to two.

Kapp was previously awarded her first demerit point following the third Women’s T20I against Sri Lanka earlier this month.

The South African all-rounder acknowledged the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, eliminating the need for a formal hearing.

The charge was levelled by on-field umpires Karren Klaaste and Jacquline Williams, third umpire Lauren Agenbag, and fourth umpire Thomas Mokorosi.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points.

In the match, South Africa, batting first, set a target of 271 in their 50 overs, led by a century from Tazmin Brits.

Oshadi Ranasinghe, Sugandika Kumari and Kavisha Dilhari each claimed two wickets for Sri Lanka. However, the match was declared a no result due to rain interruption.
