Pakistan v West Indies: Match Summary

Hayley Matthews delivered an exceptional performance, securing 3/25 to limit Pakistan to 121/7 in the second T20I at National Stadium. She then scored her 11th T20I half-century, earning yet another Player of the Match title and leading the West Indies to a 2-0 series lead.

This marks Matthews’ seventh Player of the Match award in her last eight T20I matches for the West Indies. Her outstanding performance in the shortest format of the game sends a strong message to opposition teams ahead of this year’s ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.

Since the conclusion of last year’s T20 World Cup in South Africa, Matthews has amassed 503 runs from eight innings, boasting an impressive average of 71.86. Additionally, she has taken 17 wickets with her off-spin, maintaining an impressive bowling rate of 10.47.

Matthews was crowned ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year 2023 in January, and her performance so far in 2024 suggests she could be a strong contender for the award again this year.

The West Indies captain claimed the crucial wicket of her Pakistani counterpart in her penultimate over in the second T20I. She then took two more wickets in the final over, leaving the hosts with a below-par total after they chose to bat first.

Matthews started the chase aggressively, reaching her half-century in the 11th over. Despite her dismissal by Sadia Iqbal in the 13th over after scoring 58 runs, including 10 boundaries, Chedean Nation (17*) and Chinelle Henry (8*) remained steady, leading the West Indies to victory ahead of the third match at the same venue on Tuesday.
