Jai Moondra made an immediate mark on his Ireland T20I debut by dismissing Sanju Samson with the first ball of his international career against India in Belfast on Friday.

The left-arm pacer struck in the second over of India’s innings at the Civil Service Cricket Club, where Samson dragged the ball back onto his stumps while trying to force a shot through the off side. The Times of India reported that Moondra became only the second Ireland player to take a wicket with the first ball of his T20I career.

Moondra joined Matthew Humphreys on a rare Ireland T20I list

Jai Moondra joined Matthew Humphreys as the only Ireland bowlers named in the source report to claim a wicket with the first ball of their T20I careers.

Moondra received his first international cap for the opening game of the series against India. The 29-year-old was born in Tonk, Rajasthan, and moved to Ireland in 2021 to pursue a Master’s degree in Electronics and Communication.

Moondra later joined Leinster Cricket Club in Dublin and moved through Ireland’s domestic cricket system. Moondra’s cricket path also changed roles, as he started as a batter who bowled left-arm spin before switching to pace.

India restricted Ireland before Moondra’s early strike

India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to field first, and India’s fast bowlers restricted Ireland to 182 for nine.
