Opening the innings with flair, Prabhsimran Singh unleashed a destructive knock, scoring 69 runs off just 34 deliveries. His innings was punctuated by nine fours and three sixes, decimating the LSG bowling attack and leading Punjab to chase down 172 runs with aplomb. After losing an early wicket with Priyansh Arya dismissed for 8, Prabhsimran’s aggressive onslaught paved the way for a strong foundation.
With the pitch offering grip and variable bounce, Punjab remained undeterred, maintaining their attacking approach. Prabhsimran’s fiery innings propelled Punjab to a rapid start, which allowed the captain Shreyas Iyer and Nehal Wadhera to take the team over the finish line. Iyer remained unbeaten at 52 off 30 balls, while Wadhera contributed an unbeaten 43 off 25. Together, they sealed the victory in just 16.2 overs.
Prior to the chase, Punjab’s bowlers had put in a collective effort to restrict LSG to 171/7. Left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh spearheaded the attack, finishing with figures of 3/43. His early breakthrough dismissed Mitchell Marsh for a golden duck, followed by the scalps of Abdul Samad (27 off 12) and Ayush Badoni (41 off 33). Supporting Arshdeep’s effort, Lockie Ferguson, Marco Jansen, Glenn Maxwell, and Yuzvendra Chahal each chipped in with a wicket, maintaining pressure on LSG throughout their innings.
Despite a fighting 44 off 30 balls from Nicholas Pooran, LSG struggled for momentum. Skipper Rishabh Pant’s dismal run continued, managing just 2 runs before being dismissed by Maxwell. Efforts from David Miller (19 off 18) and Samad couldn’t turn the tide against Punjab’s disciplined bowling.
In response, Digvesh Rathi shone with the ball for LSG, taking 2/30, but his efforts were not enough to thwart Punjab’s aggressive chase. Iyer and Wadhera finished the innings with a flourish, ensuring there were no further hiccups.
Punjab Kings are set to take on Rajasthan Royals next at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Chandigarh, on Saturday, looking to continue their winning momentum.
