Varun Chakaravarthy missed India’s second T20I against Afghanistan at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi after scans confirmed a side strain. Ravi Bishnoi replaced Chakaravarthy in India’s playing XI.

India captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and chose to field. India entered the match with a 1-0 lead in the three-match series after winning the opening T20I by seven wickets.

Side strain ends Chakaravarthy’s series

Chakaravarthy experienced sudden discomfort in the left lateral abdominal region while bowling his third over in the first T20I, according to a BCCI statement cited by The Times of India. Scans revealed a side strain, ruling the spinner out of the remaining two matches.

Iyer confirmed the injury at the toss and named Bishnoi as Chakaravarthy’s replacement. Sanju Samson retained his place as India’s wicketkeeper, while Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was not included in the XI.
