Nepal’s Cricket Prodigy Scripts History with Six Sixes in an Over

In an extraordinary display of power-hitting, Nepal’s 24-year-old all-rounder, Dipendra Singh Airee, smashed six sixes in an over during the ACC Men’s T20I Premier Cup clash against Qatar in Al Amerat on Saturday.

With this feat, Airee joins the elite club of Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard, becoming the third player to achieve this in Men’s T20Is.

Yuvraj Singh was the first to achieve this feat in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2007 against Stuart Broad, followed by Pollard in 2021, who smashed Akila Dananjaya for six sixes in an over in Coolidge.

In the realm of ODIs, Herschelle Gibbs was the pioneer, hitting six sixes in an over during the 2007 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup match against the Netherlands. USA’s Jaskaran Malhotra replicated the feat in 2021 against Papua New Guinea.

Vital knock from Dipendra Singh Airee steers Nepal to victory | CWC23 Qualifier

Dipendra Singh Airee showcased a stunning late-order innings to complete Nepal’s chase down of the UAE target at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier 2023.

Before the start of the final over of the innings against Kamran Khan, Airee was on 28 off 15 balls. He then hit every ball of the last over for six, finishing on a spectacular 64 off 21 balls.

Airee, who made his mark in the 2016 ICC Men’s U19 Cricket World Cup, was inducted into the senior team at the tender age of 17.

Interestingly, Airee had previously hit six consecutive sixes in the Asian Games against Mongolia. However, this feat was spread across two overs when he smashed the fastest fifty in T20Is in just nine balls, breaking Yuvraj Singh’s record of 12 deliveries.

With less than 50 days to go for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, Airee’s form is a significant boost for Nepal. The team is in Group D alongside South Africa, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands in the marquee tournament, hosted in the Caribbean Islands and the USA.
