Ishan Kishan scored 270 from 334 balls as East Zone posted 708 against South Zone on the second day of the Duleep Trophy final at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on Monday.

Kishan batted for 522 minutes across nearly two days in humid conditions. How Kishan constructed the innings

Kishan reached his first hundred from 122 balls, took another 148 deliveries to move from 100 to 200, and then accelerated against South Zone’s spinners.

Kishan completed his double century from 270 balls by driving part-time spinner Devdutt Padikkal through the covers. Kishan then scored his next 50 runs from 31 deliveries, hitting Shreyas Gopal and Tripurana Vijay for two sixes each.

Kishan scored 94 runs from 100 balls against Gopal and 70 from 88 balls against Vijay. Pulls and drives produced 22 of Kishan’s boundaries during the innings.

Kishan received medical attention after left-arm seamer CV Milind struck him on the abdomen, but the batter continued. Fatigue later forced Kishan to retire hurt on 250 from 301 balls, with 27 fours and seven sixes at that stage.

Kishan returned after Mohammad Shami was dismissed early in the final session. Vijay ended Kishan’s attempt to reach 300 when the batter hit a delivery to Ravichandran Smaran near the sight screen.

Kushagra and Roy extend East Zone’s advantage

Kushagra supported Kishan with 101 from 132 balls as the pair added 230 runs from 290 deliveries for the fifth wicket.

Kushagra struck eight fours and five sixes before a pull against a short delivery from Vijay went to Milind at square leg. Kishan then shared a 140-run sixth-wicket partnership with Roy, who made 40 from 86 balls.

East Zone added 106 runs during the first session and another 135 after lunch, keeping South Zone in the field through another demanding day.

South Zone bowlers struggle for control

South Zone’s attack found limited assistance from the flat pitch, with Mohammed Siraj unable to make a sustained impact and Vijay finishing with four wickets at a cost of 180 runs.

Kishan’s dismissal left him short of becoming the third batter to score a Duleep Trophy triple century. Raman Lamba achieved the feat in 1987 and Gagan Khoda followed in 2001, according to the match report.

East Zone’s 708 placed the side in a commanding position, with Kishan’s long innings defining the first two days of the final.
