ICC Unveils Shortlist for March Player of the Month Awards
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has today announced the candidates vying for the prestigious ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards, recognising exceptional performances in March.
These awards celebrate the exceptional individual achievements on the international cricket stage, with the March shortlist encompassing a variety of formats.
The ICC Men’s Player of the Month shortlist features a key player in Ireland’s maiden men’s Test victory, a high-performing bowler from New Zealand, and a record-setting Sri Lankan Test batsman.
Men’s Nominees
Mark Adair receives his first nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award following his pivotal role in Ireland’s Test victory over Afghanistan and his contributions in shorter formats. New Zealand’s Matt Henry had a successful month with the ball, consistently taking wickets in his side’s World Test Championship series against Australia. The shortlist is rounded off by Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis, nominated for his remarkable batting achievements as Sri Lanka triumphed over Bangladesh in the longest format.
Women’s Nominees
The women’s shortlist acknowledges performances in both shorter formats, featuring a dynamic young English batter, and iconic all-rounders from Australia and New Zealand.
England’s Maia Bouchier topped the run-scoring charts in her side’s victorious T20I series in New Zealand, earning her first nomination. Ashleigh Gardner, a four-time former winner of the ICC Women’s Player of the Month, is nominated again after shining in Australia’s ODI series win against Bangladesh. Despite New Zealand’s series loss to England, Amelia Kerr stood out as the White Ferns’ leading run-scorer and wicket-taker in March’s matches.
An independent ICC Voting Academy and fans worldwide will now cast their votes to determine the winners, which will be announced next week. Fans can vote for their favourite performers at icc-cricket.com/awards.
