ICC Announces Nominees for March Player of the Month Awards
The International Cricket Council (ICC) has unveiled the shortlist of candidates vying for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards for their exceptional performances in March.
The ICC Player of the Month awards celebrate the remarkable individual achievements on the international cricket stage, with the March nominees representing a variety of formats.
The ICC Men’s Player of the Month shortlist features a key player in Ireland’s historic men’s Test victory, a high-performing frontline bowler from New Zealand, and a Sri Lankan Test run-scorer who broke records.
Men’s Nominees
Mark Adair receives his first nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award after leading Ireland’s Test win over Afghanistan and making significant contributions in the shorter formats. Matt Henry of New Zealand had a successful month with the ball, consistently taking wickets in his side’s World Test Championship series against Australia. The lineup is rounded off by Sri Lankan batter Kamindu Mendis, who is nominated for his unforgettable batting performance as Sri Lanka triumphed over Bangladesh in the longest format.
The women’s shortlist honours both shorter formats, with the nominees including a dynamic young English batter, and legendary all-rounders from Australia and New Zealand.
England’s Maia Bouchier earned her first nomination after topping the run-scoring charts in her side’s victorious T20I series in New Zealand. Ashleigh Gardner, a four-time former winner of the ICC Women’s Player of the Month, is nominated again after her standout performance in Australia’s ODI series win against Bangladesh. Despite New Zealand’s loss in the England series, Amelia Kerr showed strong resistance as the White Ferns’ top run-scorer and wicket-taker in March’s matches.
An independent ICC Voting Academy and fans worldwide are now invited to cast their votes to determine the winners, who will be announced next week. Fans can vote for their favourite performers at icc-cricket.com/awards.
