Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), confirmed Sharma’s captaincy for the T20I side, expressing optimism about India’s prospects in the tournament.
During an event at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, Shah stated, “Despite losing the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup, our team won hearts by securing victories in 10 consecutive matches. I am confident that under Rohit Sharma’s leadership, India will triumph in the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados.”

Rohit Sharma made a remarkable contribution in the World Cup by hitting 31 sixes.
Since the conclusion of the last T20 World Cup in Australia in 2022, Sharma has only participated in three T20Is. Despite initial setbacks with back-to-back ducks, he bounced back with a record fifth century in the final T20I of the Afghanistan series.
Hardik Pandya, who was a key figure in the Indian T20I side during Sharma’s absence, is currently undergoing rehabilitation for an ankle injury that kept him out of much of the 2023 Cricket World Cup.
