India Maintains Top Spot in ICC Men’s T20I Rankings Following Historic World Cup Victory

The Indian men’s national cricket team continues to dominate the shortest format, retaining the number one position in the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s T20I Team Rankings. India stays comfortably ahead of rivals England and Australia following the annual standings update.

This rankings release follows India’s historic victory in June 2024, where they secured their second T20 World Cup title. Co-hosted by the United States and the West Indies, the tournament saw India become the first team to win the global championship undefeated, correcting prior reports that inaccurately placed the tournament in March and misidentified the host nations.

ICC Ranking Methodology and Top Tier Standings

According to the ICC, the updated rankings calculate matches played since May 2024 at 100 percent weightage, while matches from the previous two years are rated at 50 percent.

India currently leads the table with 275 rating points. England occupies the second spot with 262 points, closely followed by Australia in third with 258 points. The top seven teams remained static in their respective positions.

Rank Team Rating Points
1 India 275
2 England 262
3 Australia 258
4 New Zealand 247
5 South Africa 244
6 Pakistan 240
7 West Indies 233
8 Bangladesh 225

Shifts Across the Global Standings

Significant movement occurred below the top tier. Sri Lanka dropped to ninth place after losing six rating points, allowing Bangladesh to climb into the eighth spot. Afghanistan trails closely behind Sri Lanka in 10th place with 220 points. Zimbabwe and Ireland maintained their positions at 11th and 12th, respectively.

Associate Nations Make Strides

The United States national cricket team, fresh off a successful group stage run at the 2024 T20 World Cup, advanced two spots to 13th place. The USA gained six rating points to overtake both the Netherlands (14th) and Scotland (15th).

  • Nepal: Advanced to 17th place, moving ahead of the UAE.
  • Oman: Rose to 19th place, overtaking Canada.
  • Namibia: Retained their position at 16th.

The total number of ranked teams decreased from 102 to 98. Fiji, Gambia, Greece, and Israel were removed from the active list after failing to meet the minimum requirement of playing eight T20I matches over the past three years.
