Ryan ten Doeschate has stepped down as India’s men’s assistant coach, while Subhadeep Ghosh will become the fielding coach after T Dilip’s contract ended and was not renewed. The changes were detailed in a Times of India report.

India’s white-ball tour of England was the final assignment for Ten Doeschate and Dilip. Neither coach will travel with the team for the two-Test tour of Sri Lanka in August.

Why Ryan ten Doeschate stepped away

Ryan ten Doeschate informed the BCCI during the England tour that he wanted to leave despite receiving an offer to extend his contract until 2027, according to the report. The former Netherlands all-rounder cited personal reasons, with family commitments and the demands of international travel influencing his decision.

Ten Doeschate joined India’s coaching staff in July 2024 after Gautam Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid as head coach. Ten Doeschate had previously worked with Gambhir at Kolkata Knight Riders and entered the India setup alongside bowling coach Morne Morkel.

Subhadeep Ghosh moves into the fielding role

Subhadeep Ghosh will begin his first international assignment as India’s fielding coach on the Sri Lanka Test tour. Ghosh has previously worked as the fielding coach of India A teams.

T Dilip leaves the national setup after completing his tenure. Dilip’s contract was not extended, and the England white-ball tour marked his final assignment with the senior team.

Results during Ten Doeschate’s tenure

India won the Champions Trophy and Asia Cup in 2025 and defended the T20 World Cup in 2026 during Ten Doeschate’s stint. India’s Test team also lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia before home series defeats against New Zealand by 3-0 and South Africa by 2-0.
