ICC Player of the Month: April Nominees Announced

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the latest contenders for the ICC Men’s and Women’s Player of the Month awards, following the international matches held in April.

Women’s Player of the Month Nominees

The shortlist for the ICC Women’s Player of the Month includes three top performers:

  • Chamari Athapaththu (Sri Lanka): Recognized for her exceptional runscoring feats in ODIs and T20Is in South Africa and the UAE.
  • Hayley Matthews (West Indies): Nominated for her all-round performances during the West Indies’ strong performance in Pakistan.
  • Laura Wolvaardt (South Africa): Acknowledged for her inspiring batting performances in April’s matches.

Men’s Player of the Month Nominees

The ICC Men’s Player of the Month shortlist includes three influential figures who excelled in T20Is in April:

  • Shaheen Shah Afridi (Pakistan): Nominated for his wicket-taking performances that led Pakistan to a series draw with New Zealand.
  • Gerhard Erasmus (Namibia): Recognized for his pivotal role in Namibia’s series victory in Oman.
  • Muhammad Waseem (UAE): Acknowledged for his impressive performance in the ACC Premier Cup.

The winners will be decided by an independent ICC Voting Academy and fans worldwide. Fans can vote for their favourite performers at icc-cricket.com/awards. The winners will be announced next week.

Player Profiles

ICC Player of the Month Voting Process

The three nominees for each category are shortlisted based on performances from the first to the last day of each calendar month. The independent ICC Voting Academy and fans worldwide then vote on the shortlist. The Voting Academy, comprising prominent members of the cricket fraternity including well-known journalists, former players, broadcasters and members of the ICC Hall of Fame, submit their votes by email and hold a 90 per cent share of the vote. Fans registered with the ICC can vote via the ICC website, accounting for the remaining 10 per cent. Winners are announced every second Monday of the month on ICC’s digital channels.

ICC Voting Academy Members

The ICC Voting Academy includes representatives from Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, Ireland, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Zimbabwe, and others.
