West Indies cricket great Garry Sobers died on Friday at the age of 89. Sobers’ son Daniel confirmed the death, according to a Times of India report. Sobers was 10 days short of his 90th birthday.
Garfield Sobers, a former West Indies captain, was widely regarded as one of cricket’s finest all-rounders. Sobers represented the West Indies from 1954 to 1974.

Sobers’ international career record
Sobers played 93 Tests, scoring 8,032 runs at an average of 57.78 with 26 centuries and 30 half-centuries. The left-handed batter also took 235 Test wickets as a left-arm fast-medium bowler.

Sobers made one One-Day International appearance for the West Indies and claimed one wicket.
Record-breaking innings and six-sixes feat
Sobers scored an unbeaten 365 against Pakistan in 1958, setting a Test record for the highest individual score. The record stood for 36 years before West Indies batter Brian Lara scored 375 against England in 1994.
Sobers also became the first batter to hit six sixes in a single over in first-class cricket. Sobers achieved the feat for Nottinghamshire against Glamorgan in 1968.
