Rohit Sharma became the seventh batter to score 12,000 runs in men’s One Day Internationals during India’s second match against West Indies in Guwahati on Wednesday. The India opener reached the landmark as India chased a target of 406.
Rohit brought up the milestone with a single off Roston Chase in the 16th over, according to the source report. He became the third Indian to reach 12,000 ODI runs after Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.
Rohit becomes second-fastest by innings
Rohit reached 12,000 ODI runs in 282 innings, making him the second-fastest batter to the landmark by innings. Kohli got there in 242 innings, while Tendulkar required 300.

Rohit was also the second-fastest batter to reach the mark by balls faced. He completed 12,000 runs after 12,973 deliveries, behind Kohli’s figure of 12,853.
The milestone put Rohit alongside Tendulkar, Kohli, Ponting, Sangakkara, Sanath Jayasuriya and Mahela Jayawardena in the 12,000-run group.
Rohit’s ODI record includes three double-centuries
Rohit has scored more than 12,000 runs in 290 ODI matches since his debut in 2007. His record includes 35 centuries and 62 half-centuries.

Rohit’s unbeaten 264 against Sri Lanka in Kolkata in 2014 remains the highest individual score in men’s ODI cricket. He is also the only batter to have recorded three double-centuries in the format.
West Indies set India a 406-run target
West Indies made 405 for seven after being sent in to bat, posting their first total above 400 in ODI cricket. John Campbell, Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo each scored a century, the first time West Indies had three centurions in the same ODI innings.
Campbell reached his century from 65 balls and finished with 101 from 68 deliveries, including nine fours and five sixes. Hope scored 104 from 94 balls with eight fours and three sixes after Virat Kohli dropped him on 27 at short midwicket.
Jangoo reached his second ODI century from 69 balls and finished with 114 from 83 deliveries. He hit 13 fours and three sixes.
West Indies’ 405 for seven passed their previous highest ODI total of 389 against England in 2019. Rohit reached his landmark during India’s pursuit of the 406-run target.
