LSG posted a challenging total of 203/8, thanks to explosive innings from Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram. Marsh blazed his way to 60 runs off just 31 balls, while Markram contributed a solid 53 off 38 deliveries. Despite a late surge by MI’s captain Hardik Pandya, who claimed a career-best 5/36, LSG managed to set a formidable target.
In response, MI’s chase got off to a rocky start with early dismissals of openers Will Jacks and Ryan Rickelton. However, a spirited 69-run partnership between Suryakumar Yadav and Naman Dhir brought MI back into the contest. Yadav’s aggressive 67 off 43 balls was a highlight, but his departure in the 17th over to Avesh Khan shifted the momentum back to LSG.
The match’s turning point came when Dhir was dismissed by Digvesh Rathi, who celebrated with his now-famous ‘letter-writing’ gesture. Despite a valiant effort from Pandya, who remained unbeaten on 28 and hit a six in the final over, MI fell short at 191/5, needing 22 runs off the last six deliveries.
LSG’s opening duo set the tone early, amassing 69 runs without loss in the powerplay. MI fought back with timely wickets, but the target proved just beyond their reach. This victory marks LSG’s second win of the season, showcasing their potential to be strong contenders in IPL 2025.
