In a video that quickly went viral, shared by the Mumbai Indians franchise, Bumrah delivered a toe-crushing yorker that left a teammate stunned. The post, captioned ‘Goodnight Paltan,’ captured the attention of cricket fans worldwide, highlighting Bumrah’s return to form after a three-month hiatus.
Head coach Mahela Jayawardene expressed his delight at having Bumrah back in the squad. ‘Boom (Bumrah) is coming back from a pretty decent layoff. So, we need to give him that space and not expect too much. But knowing Jasprit, he’ll be up for it. And we’re very happy to have him in the camp,’ Jayawardene stated during the pre-match press conference.
Jayawardene also emphasized the value Bumrah brings beyond his bowling prowess. ‘The experience that he brings and that extra voice out there in the middle, chatting with Bolti (Trent Boult), chatting with Deepak (Chahar) or any other younger bowler, giving that advice is also very valuable for us. So, that’s what we’re looking forward to from him,’ he added.
The Mumbai Indians have had a challenging start to their IPL 2025 campaign, losing three out of their four fixtures. Their sole victory came against the Kolkata Knight Riders, where they secured an eight-wicket win over Ajinkya Rahane’s team. Currently, they sit eighth on the points table with just two points, and Bumrah’s return is seen as a potential catalyst for a turnaround under the leadership of Hardik Pandya.
