Ravichandran Ashwin Marks a Significant Milestone in Dharamsala

Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin has entered the prestigious club of players with 100 Test match appearances for India.

The accomplished off-spinner, who first stepped into the Test cricket arena in 2011, recently achieved the remarkable feat of 500 Test wickets during a match in Rajkot, making him only the second Indian to reach this milestone.

“The desire to excel hasn’t changed, wanting to keep on evolving as a cricketer, that’s something that’s been organic to me right from my club cricket days in Chennai,” Ashwin reflected during the Rajkot Test after accomplishing the milestone.

In the Ranchi Test match, Ashwin recorded his 35th five-wicket haul in Test cricket, matching Anil Kumble’s record for the most five-wicket hauls by an Indian in Test cricket.

Furthermore, Ashwin joined Muttiah Muralidaran as the only second bowler to achieve 500 wickets in less than 100 Test matches.

Since his Test debut in November 2011, only Nathan Lyon has claimed more wickets than Ashwin in this format, solidifying his position as one of the most successful modern-day Test bowlers.

Upon dismissing Zak Crawley in Rajkot, Ravichandran Ashwin became the ninth bowler to reach the milestone of 500 Test wickets. For more details, visit here and here.

With this latest achievement, Ashwin joins an elite group of Indian cricketers who have played over 100 Test matches. The last Indian to achieve this milestone was Cheteshwar Pujara.

Internationally, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record for the most appearances in Test matches, with a staggering 200 matches to his name.
