Kapil Dev Stands with Nation in Wake of Pahalgam Terror Attack

In a heart-wrenching turn of events, the serene tourist haven of Baisaran meadow in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, became the site of a brutal terrorist attack on April 22. The strike resulted in the tragic loss of 26 innocent lives and left several others injured, shattering the peace of this picturesque destination. Amidst national outrage, Kapil Dev, the iconic captain of India’s 1983 World Cup-winning team, alongside former badminton star Pullela Gopichand, has voiced strong support for the country’s response to this horrific incident.

Kapil Dev, speaking to reporters on Friday, expressed unwavering solidarity with the nation, stating, ‘I am with the country; whatever our country does, it will be good.’ His words resonate with a deep sense of patriotism, reflecting the sentiments of millions of Indians mourning the loss. Similarly, in an exclusive conversation with ANI, Gopichand condemned the attack, saying, ‘It is an unfortunate incident, and I am happy that the government is sternly dealing with it. Perpetrators of the crime should be booked and brought to justice.’ He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, acknowledging the irreplaceable loss of lives.

The Indian government has responded with decisive action, severing all diplomatic ties with Pakistan and implementing stringent measures. On April 23, the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) convened an urgent meeting to assess the situation. The committee issued a powerful condemnation of the attack, offered heartfelt condolences to the victims’ families, and prayed for the swift recovery of those injured. Investigations into the attack have pointed to cross-border connections, raising alarms at a time when the Union Territory has been witnessing successful elections and significant economic progress.

In a historic move, the administration has suspended the Indus Water Treaty, sending a clear message to Pakistan about its alleged involvement in supporting cross-border terrorism. Additionally, following the cancellation of all visas for Pakistani citizens, official records reveal that between April 24 and April 30, 786 Pakistani nationals exited India via the Attari border, as confirmed by a senior official. The government has also warned of severe consequences for the terrorists and their conspirators, ensuring that justice will be served.

On a different note, Kapil Dev also commented on the remarkable transformation of Uttar Pradesh, highlighting the preparations for the Maha Kumbh 2025 in Prayagraj. He noted, ‘UP has changed a lot in a good way. If you look at the positive side, it is never likely to happen again in the future, where you will accommodate 60 crore people in such a small city like Prayagraj.’ This optimistic outlook serves as a reminder of India’s resilience and ability to unite in the face of adversity, whether on the cricket field or in moments of national crisis.

As the nation grapples with the aftermath of the Pahalgam tragedy, the voices of legends like Kapil Dev and Pullela Gopichand echo the collective resolve to stand firm. With the government’s resolute actions and the support of its citizens, India reaffirms its commitment to peace, justice, and unwavering strength against terrorism.
