Rajasthan Royals Defend 210 in Final-Over Thriller Against Gujarat Titans
The Rajasthan Royals secured a narrow six-run victory over the Gujarat Titans on Saturday, successfully defending a target of 211 through disciplined death bowling. Jofra Archer and Tushar Deshpande restricted the Titans in the final two overs, neutralizing a late surge from Kagiso Rabada and Rashid Khan.
Tactical Shift Secures Rajasthan’s Victory
With Gujarat requiring 14 runs from the final 12 deliveries, Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag adjusted his bowling rotation. Parag initially intended to bowl the 19th over but switched to Archer following advice from wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel.
Archer conceded just four runs in the penultimate over, leaving Gujarat requiring 10 runs for victory. Jofra Archer explained the change in strategy during the post-match press conference.
“I didn’t take it from him. Riyan changed his mind,” Archer stated. “He was going to bowl the 19th, and I was going to bowl the last one. Practice and a game can be two different things. Being adaptable is important. Slower balls weren’t staying in, so we had to go predominantly pace on.”
Tushar Deshpande bowled the 20th over under pressure. Despite starting with a wide, Deshpande executed back-to-back yorkers and full deliveries to concede only four runs, sealing the win for Rajasthan.
Gujarat Titans’ Chase Falters After Strong Start
Chasing 211, Gujarat established a solid foundation. Sai Sudharsan scored 73 runs off 44 balls, anchoring a 78-run opening partnership with debutant Kumar Kushagra, who managed 18 off 14 deliveries.
The momentum shifted when Ravi Bishnoi dismissed Sudharsan. The Gujarat Titans batting lineup collapsed, losing four wickets for 26 runs to drop from 107 for 1 to 133 for 5. The slide continued to 161 for 7 before the lower order mounted a brief counterattack.
Stand-in captain Rashid Khan (24) and Kagiso Rabada (23 not out) accelerated the scoring rate, bringing the Titans back into contention before falling six runs short of the target.
Jurel and Jaiswal Power the Royals’ Innings
Earlier in the match, Rajasthan Royals posted 210 for 6 after electing to bat first. The innings was built on an aggressive 70-run opening stand in 6.2 overs between Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young Sooryavanshi contributed 31 runs off 18 balls, while Jaiswal recorded 55 off 36 deliveries.
Dhruv Jurel anchored the middle overs, accelerating to score 75 runs off 42 balls to push the team total past the 200-run mark.
