Rain Truncates MI vs RR Clash to 11 Overs; Mumbai Indians Elect to Bowl First in Guwahati

GUWAHATI — Heavy rain has forced match officials to reduce the highly anticipated Indian Premier League fixture between the Mumbai Indians and the Rajasthan Royals to an 11-over contest. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya won the toss and elected to field first at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium on Tuesday.

The revised playing conditions dictate a 3.2-over powerplay. The pitch remained under covers for an extended period, prompting Pandya to prioritize chasing in the shortened format.

Captains Note Wet Conditions and Squad Adjustments

Pandya confirmed the return of veteran fast bowler Trent Boult to the Mumbai Indians starting lineup. Boult reclaims his overseas slot, joining a pace attack featuring Jasprit Bumrah and newly acquired Deepak Chahar.

“We are going to bowl first,” Pandya stated at the toss. “It has been under covers, and in rain-affected games, you should bat second. It gives you a clear idea of what the total should be. It is just the start of the season and we are bound to make mistakes. I come back, and Boulty is back.”

Rajasthan Royals captain Riyan Parag indicated his team would have also chosen to chase had they won the coin flip. The Royals are fielding an unchanged lineup featuring 13-year-old prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and English speedster Jofra Archer.

“We would have done the same thing actually,” Parag noted. “The pitch was supposed to be dry, but then it rained a lot. It is what it is. We have had two different types of games, but I am really happy with how the boys handled the pressure. Same team for us.”

Confirmed Playing XIs

Both franchises finalized their lineups tailored for the abbreviated 11-over shootout. The Mumbai Indians feature a spin-heavy bench with AM Ghazanfar earning a start, while the Rajasthan Royals will rely on their aggressive top order to maximize the shortened powerplay.
