Kolkata Knight Riders Sign Navdeep Saini to Replace Injured Harshit Rana for IPL 2026

The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have officially signed Indian fast bowler Navdeep Saini as a replacement for Harshit Rana ahead of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Rana has been ruled out of the upcoming tournament due to a severe right knee injury.

Harshit Rana’s Injury and Rehabilitation

Rana sustained a ligament strain in his right knee during a T20 World Cup warm-up match against South Africa. After bowling just one over, he was forced off the field and subsequently underwent surgery. Mohammed Siraj replaced him during the national team’s title-winning campaign. Rana, recently seen on crutches at the BCCI Naman Awards, is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation.

Navdeep Saini Brings International Experience

Saini joins the KKR roster to reinforce a depleted fast-bowling unit. The right-arm fast bowler brings verifiable international experience across all three formats for the Indian national team.

Format Matches Played
Test Matches 2
One-Day Internationals (ODI) 8
Twenty20 Internationals (T20I) 11

Roster Challenges and IPL Schedule

The three-time IPL champions are managing multiple fitness and availability issues. Matheesha Pathirana is recovering from a calf strain sustained during the T20 World Cup. Additionally, the IPL governing council directed the release of left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman earlier this year.

To address these absences, KKR signed Zimbabwe international Blessing Muzarabani, who withdrew from his Pakistan Super League commitments to join the Kolkata squad. The current pace attack also features Vaibhav Arora, Saurabh Dubey, Umran Malik, and Kartik Tyagi, alongside all-rounders Cameron Green and Ramandeep Singh.

KKR opens its IPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians on March 29 in an away fixture. The team will then host the Sunrisers Hyderabad, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow Super Giants during the initial phase of the tournament. Fans can track the complete schedule and match statistics on ESPNcricinfo.
