IPL 2026: RCB to Host Five Matches at Chinnaswamy, Two in Raipur Following Security Clearance
BENGALURU: The Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) confirmed they will host five of their seven home matches for the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. The franchise announced the decision following extensive coordination with state authorities to ensure robust safety measures for the defending champions’ return.
Venue Split for IPL 2026 Season
In a strategic move addressing both logistical commitments and infrastructure safety, RCB will split their home fixtures between their traditional base in Bengaluru and a secondary venue in Chhattisgarh. The remaining two home games will take place at the Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Cricket Stadium in Raipur.
| Venue | Location | Number of Matches |
|---|---|---|
| M Chinnaswamy Stadium | Bengaluru, Karnataka | 5 |
| Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh International Stadium | Raipur, Chhattisgarh | 2 |
Administrative Coordination and Safety Protocols
The allocation of matches comes after a rigorous review process involving the franchise, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), and local law enforcement. This scrutiny follows the tragic stampede incident that occurred on June 4, 2025, during the team’s maiden title victory celebrations.
Rajesh Menon, CEO of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, emphasized the franchise’s commitment to fan safety and compliance with state directives.
“After detailed discussions and completing the necessary due process around permissions, we are pleased to confirm that RCB will play five matches in Bengaluru,” Menon said. “We sincerely thank the Government of Karnataka, the KSCA, and the Karnataka Police for their support in making this possible.”
Infrastructure Upgrades
According to the official statement, the franchise and authorities have ramped up infrastructure and crowd management protocols to prevent future incidents. Menon noted the emotional connection between the team and the venue:
“The M Chinnaswamy Stadium is more than just our home ground; it is where our identity as a team truly comes alive. The energy our fans bring to Bengaluru has always been a driving force for our players… Our fans have stood by us unconditionally, and they deserve the opportunity to watch their team compete at home.”
Background: The 2025 Victory Parade Incident
The heightened security focus stems from the events of June 4, 2025, when a massive gathering estimated at nearly 300,000 fans assembled to celebrate RCB’s first IPL trophy. The resulting congestion led to a stampede near the stadium, resulting in 11 casualties and over 50 injuries. The 2026 schedule reflects a cautious approach to resuming large-scale cricket events at the venue, ensuring all BCCI and state safety guidelines are met.
