Historical Context and Future Fixtures
The Gqeberha fixture marks only the fourth Women’s Test played between India and South Africa, and the second women’s Test hosted at St George’s Park. It represents India’s second red-ball match of the calendar year, following a scheduled fixture against Australia at the WACA Ground in Perth.
Cricket South Africa (CSA) also confirmed that India will return for a five-match Twenty20 International (T20I) series from April 17 to 27, 2026. Those matches, scheduled in Durban, Johannesburg, and Benoni, will provide match practice ahead of the 2026 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England, which runs from June 12 to July 5, 2026.
Cricket South Africa Emphasizes Red-Ball Growth
Cricket South Africa Chief Executive Officer Pholetsi Moseki confirmed the organization’s objective to expand the women’s game through high-profile international series.
“These tours will showcase the very best of international women’s cricket and build on the encouraging rise in fan attendance,” Moseki said. “Test cricket remains a special and historic format of the game, and providing our Proteas Women with opportunities to compete in red-ball cricket at home is an important step in the continued recognition of the women’s game in South Africa.”
Moseki also noted the continuation of the annual Black Day ODI, a dedicated fixture designed to raise awareness against gender-based violence. The sixth edition of this event will take place at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Stadium.
