Imad Wasim Slams Critics Downplaying India’s T20 World Cup Triumph

Pakistan all-rounder Imad Wasim has strongly defended the Indian men’s cricket team following their undefeated run to the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title. Addressing ongoing conspiracy theories regarding pitch manipulation and favorable umpiring, Wasim urged critics to recognize India’s current superiority in international cricket.

Dismissing Pitch Manipulation Claims

Speaking on a Pakistani television program, Wasim targeted the recurring narrative among certain regional analysts who claim global tournaments are tailored for Indian success. He highlighted India’s flawless campaign, which culminated in a historic seven-run victory over South Africa at Kensington Oval in Barbados, as absolute proof of their merit.

“We always hear people saying that umpires favor India or that they prepare spin-friendly pitches, but you have to agree that in this tournament, the pitches were very well balanced,” Wasim stated. “Sometimes, the conditions were even against India, but they still managed to deliver a dominating performance.”

India’s Undefeated 2024 Campaign

The Indian squad, led by captain Rohit Sharma, navigated highly challenging batting surfaces at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York during the group stages. They subsequently adapted to slower, turning tracks in the Caribbean for the Super 8s and knockouts. By winning the tournament without a single defeat, India became the first team to achieve an unbeaten run to the Men’s T20 World Cup trophy, securing their second title after the inaugural 2007 edition.

Wasim added that instead of questioning the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) or searching for excuses, competing nations should focus on elevating their own standards. “We should not always nitpick or claim that India are looking for an escape route,” he explained. “As a cricketing nation, we have to praise them for their performance and accept the fact that in terms of cricket, they are bigger than us and many other teams.”
