13-Year-Old Prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Eyes Chris Gayle’s Historic 175-Run IPL Record

Teen batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has set his sights on the highest individual score in the history of the league. Ahead of his debut Indian Premier League season with the Rajasthan Royals, the 13-year-old declared his intention to surpass the famous 175-run unbeaten knock by Chris Gayle.

Sooryavanshi gained global attention after becoming the youngest player sold in IPL auction history. Following a rapid rise through domestic cricket, which includes a record-breaking 58-ball century against the Australia Under-19 team, he is preparing for his maiden IPL campaign. Speaking at an award ceremony in New Delhi, Sooryavanshi outlined his primary batting objective.

Targeting the Ultimate T20 Milestone

During a press interaction, reporters asked the teenager to choose between hitting six consecutive sixes, recording the fastest IPL century, or breaking Gayle’s 175. Sooryavanshi gave a direct answer.

“To break the 175-run record,” he stated.

Gayle’s blistering 175 not out for Royal Challengers Bangalore against Pune Warriors India in IPL 2013 remains the highest individual score in all T20 cricket. Breaking this record requires an extraordinary combination of boundary-hitting and crease occupation.

Highest Individual Scores in IPL History

Player Score Team Opponent Year
Chris Gayle 175* RCB PWI 2013
Brendon McCullum 158* KKR RCB 2008
Quinton de Kock 140* LSG KKR 2022

Focus on Rajasthan Royals’ Title Campaign

While individual records are a long-term target, Sooryavanshi maintained that team success dictates his current approach.

“The goal this IPL season is to win the trophy for the team. It is a very important thing,” he explained. “My goal is to contribute to RR’s wins and win the trophy for the franchise.”

Rajasthan Royals secured Sooryavanshi for INR 1.10 crore during the mega auction. The left-handed batter credited the franchise’s scouting network for tracking his progress in domestic cricket for Bihar.

“When I made my domestic debut, RR had been keeping an eye on me during my domestic and Under-19 games. Their scouting team had been tracking me for a long time. My trial went very well and I felt I could go to RR,” he noted.

The young batter also acknowledged the influence of senior professionals and coaches during his early development.

“Rahul sir was there at that time, so I got to learn a lot from him. There were a lot of senior players in the team and it was a great learning experience,” Sooryavanshi added.
